Rapid Prototyping (3D Printing) We can turn your ideas into high quality, accurate prototypes! Our 3D Printed models will allow you to feel, touch and test your product with your team for review purposes.
Fused Deposition Modeling (FDM) is an additive manufacturing technology that builds parts up layer-by-layer. This process is ideal for building durable components with complex geometries in nearly any shape and size. offering outstanding thermal and chemical resistance, and excellent strength-to-weight ratios. Our 3D Printing facility is therefore the smart choice for anything from concept models to production parts and offers unbeatable dimensional accuracy and precise repeat-ability.
FDM (3D Printing) Applications:
Functional prototypes
Mechanical parts
Prototypes for Consumer products
Low volume production parts
One-offs.
Manufacturing aids
Molds
Jigs & fixtures
We offer a powerful range of FDM engineering grade plastic materials that maximize benefit of 3D printing for various industries. ULTRA ABS - Functional prototypes, mechanical strong, durable parts, simulating injection molded part properties. ABS - Ideal for basic applications, gadgets & figurines, display models and models with moderate functional and testing properties HIPS - factory like casing prototypes, mechanical parts, models with large flat surfaces, architecture, resistant to acetone. GLASS - Translucent elements that imitate glass or translucent plastic, parts resistant to salts, acids or alkilis. PETG - Diverse and challenging parts resistant to oils, greases, acids, machine and mechanical parts. PCABS - Durable, temperature resistant prototypes, consumer electronics, casings, automotive parts, structural components. PLA - Biodegradable. Suitable for gifts, toys, medical applications and prototype parts. Not suitable for high impact applications or applications exceeding 55° Celsius.
Additive manufacturing allows us to make complex, intricate and delicate parts that subtractive techniques cannot. Our additive manufacturing FDM machines are capable of:
Layer resolution = 90 microns / PLA up to 50 microns
Wall thickness = Min 400 microns / Optimal 800 microns
High accuracy and print quality = simulating injection molding.
Post-Processing for 3D Printing The following 3D printing finishing options can strengthen parts and improve cosmetic appearance.
Painting or clear coating is also possible on 3D-printed parts. Some sanding and polishing will be needed to make the surface smooth, after which the part can be masked off and painted.
Texturing improves the finish of 3D-printed parts by making them less slippery, improves ergonomics, and enhances cosmetic appearance.
Polishing is possible on 3D-printed parts to create a high-quality finish.
Secondary machining is possible on 3D Printed parts if a highly accurate and smooth surface finish is required.
Inserts can also be printed in place, heat-staked or glued into place.
Red Dog CNC will work with you every step of the way, from product design, best process selection and through to the final application.
